While many high school seniors have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak this year, ABC has made it a little better for some graduates.
On May 1, 2020, ABC Texas Gulf Coast Chapter awarded scholarships to nine students of five Brazoria County High Schools. These students included:
- Bailey Benge and Mark Sauceda of Angleton High School
- Gustavo DeLaCruz and Anthony Laird of Brazosport High School
- Edward Sablatura and Juan Torres of Brazoswood High School
- Gabriela Cano and Cody Garrison of Sweeny High School
- James Fritz of Manvel High School
All students are currently enrolled in Career & Technical Education classes and are interested in pursuing a career in the local petrochemical construction industry. They will also participate in the Brazoria County Petrochemical Council (BCPC) Signing Day event scheduled in August of 2020, which may result in employment with a participating company.
Congratulations to these students for completing this milestone, and for committing to the next steps of continuing their education while they work under the mentorship of a sponsoring company. This proven approach accelerates a path from apprenticeship to journeyman by as much as two years when formal education is paired with on the job learning and mentorship.
Their ABC Scholarships will fund construction courses at Brazosport College as they begin on their career paths. This collaborative effort places deserving students in well-paying careers, and provides a highly skilled workforce that sustains local industry.
