Brazosport Safety Council (BSC)

Brazosport Safety Council (BSC), an affiliate of ABC Texas Gulf Coast, maintains two training facilities – main office in Freeport and a satellite office in Sweeny. The council has been providing safety training for Brazoria County and the Petro Chemical Industry for over 40 years.

BSC is a member of the Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils (ARSC) and offers numerous ARSC courses including Basic Orientation Plus and Basic Plus Refresher. The council also provides site specific training for area plants and other job related training as needed. BSC assists local owners and contractors in the development and presentation of their site specific training modules. Training modules are delivered through computer based programs and instructor-led course work.

Craft Training

MSTI offers NCCER training and Certification for many crafts. The majority of the training is done in partnership with our 40+ year partner, Brazosport College.  Fall & Spring Semester courses are available in the following areas:

• Automotive Mechanic

• Construction Management

• Electrical

• Engineering Graphics & Design


• Instrumentation

• Machine Tools

• Millwright

• Pipefitting

• Safety, Health & Environmental Management

• Welding

Merit Shop Training, Inc.

Merit Shop Training, Inc., the educational affiliate of ABC Texas Gulf Coast, is an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor and Assessment Center with the ability to deliver credentials through craft training, written assessments and performance verifications. NCCER training and certification is available for many crafts.  See the printable 2017-18 MSTI Craft Training Catalog.

MSTI is committed to workforce development and offers scholarships each year to area high schools. This scholarship provides tuition and books with our 40+ year partner, Brazosport College (for a total value of $2,000) for any student wishing to study crafts or other construction –related fields.
