Competitors from across the nation traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the ABC National Craft Championships competition on March 5-9, 2008.

Each year, competitors gather to test their knowledge and skills as craftsmen. Since 1987, the ABC National Craft Championships has emerged as the premier skills competition event in the construction industry. The competition focuses attention on workforce development in the merit shop industry and demonstrates a commitment to safety, productivity and quality in workmanship.
This year, Merit Shop Training, Inc., the educational affiliate of ABC Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, sent two competitors to the national competition. Kerry Melton, a millwright for RPM Services, Inc. and Walter Andrews, an electrician for Wolfenson Electric, Inc., were winners of the local Craft Championships, which was held at Brazosport College on November 8, 2007.
ABC Texas Gulf Coast Chapter was well represented by both competitors at the National Championships with Kerry Melton taking first place in the millwright competition.
The ABC and MSTI Boards of Directors and membership congratulate Kerry for his outstanding accomplishment.
