Over the last 15 years, Merit Shop Training, Inc., educational affiliate of ABC Texas Gulf Coast, has sent more than 30 craftsmen to national competition. Barely a year has passed that our craftsmen were not on stage receiving recognition, scooping up cash awards and other prizes. 2011 was no exception!
Denton Smith of McGill Maintenance Partnership, Ltd., brought home the 11th medal awarded to a millwright over the past 15 years of competition. His name will be placed permanently on a banner in the millwright lab at Brazosport College. This program, led by long-time coordinator Jim Slick, continues to train highly successful competitors!

Smith will graduate this year from the Brazosport College and the MSTI Craft Training Program with his certificates for Millwright. He is one of many sponsored for training by ABC and McGill Maintenance in accordance with the Brazoria County Petrochemical Council’s (BCPC) campaign to support craft training for a highly skilled workforce. Funds from BCPC, ABC, and local contractors ensure that young craftsmen get the training they need and the community deserves.
MSTI wishes to thank BCPC, the ABC Board of Directors, and our local contractors for their support. We especially wish to congratulate Denton for his success and representing Texas Gulf Coast Chapter so well!
