Texas Gulf Coast Chapter Selects K. B. Green as Craft Instructor of the Year Nominee
ABC Texas Gulf Coast is proud to announce that Keith B. Green of Miken Specialties, Ltd. was selected to represent our chapter in the ABC national competition recognizing excellence in teaching and supporting the principles of NCCER and safety in the construction industry. Keith (KB) is a long-time employee of Miken and has been a trainer for many years. He represents the high standards of excellence required of quality craftsmen in our area. As such, he also has the attributes most desired in an instructor: knowledge, skill, dedication to passing along the skills of his craft, and a desire to help others be successful in the construction industry.

With more than 10 years in the industry at a supervisory level, Keith brings both knowledge and experience to his instruction. For him, it is as much about helping a young employee understand the importance and benefits of training as it is about learning the skills of the trade. Mr. Green enjoys teaching and seems to inherently know that it takes a varied approach to bring both the basic knowledge and practical skills to life for his students. He understands that students who see relevance in what they are learning are far more likely to retain and put into practice what they have learned. He mixes on the job experiences with textbook information to create applicable lessons. Likewise, his injection of humor as well as fairness in class creates an atmosphere that encourages involvement and participation from all, as well as a feeling of equality and trust.
K.B. is an NCCER Certified Instructor, Master Trainer and Master Scaffold Builder. He participated in the development of the NCCER scaffold builder curriculum and is called on as a trainer for other entities in the scaffolding business. Like many of the other nominees for this award, Mr. Green has a long list of accomplishments; however, the true measures of any teacher are the respect of students, the ability to train such that the trainee values continual learning as much as the trainer, and the ability to teach others to be problem solvers. Knowledge is powerful, but the ability to teach and help trainees excel and advance through training is greater. This chapter is proud to list K.B. Green as one of our NCCER instructors and believes he truly represents all that is excellent in the craft and as an instructor.
