2021 Scholarships Awarded

On May 1, 2021, ABC Texas Gulf Coast Chapter awarded scholarships to eight students of four Brazoria County High Schools.  These students included:

  • Gabriel Martinez and Samuel Zapata of Angleton High School
  • Bryan Castro, Jeremy Jackson and Cristian Virrueta-Padilla of Brazosport High School
  • David Chavez and Oscar Mendez of Brazoswood High School
  • Jeremiah Sykes of Sweeny High School

All students are currently enrolled in Career & Technical Education classes and are interested in pursuing a career in the local petrochemical construction industry.  They were also participants in the Brazoria County Petrochemical Council (BCPC) Signing Day event which results in signing letters of intent for employment with local owner and contractor companies.

Congratulations to these students for completing this milestone, and for committing to the next steps of continuing their education while they work under the mentorship of a sponsoring company.  This proven approach accelerates a path from apprenticeship to journeyman by as much as two years when formal education is paired with on the job learning and mentorship.

Their ABC Scholarships will fund construction courses at Brazosport College as they begin on their career paths.  This collaborative effort places deserving students in well-paying careers, and provides a highly skilled workforce that sustains local industry.

Joseph Patterson of McGill Maintenance Wins Bronze at National Craft Championship in March

ABC and MSTI are pleased to announce that Joseph Patterson of McGill Maintenance won the Bronze Medal at the ABC National Craft Championships held in March 2019 in Long Beach, California.  We are excited to have yet another Millwright competitor to represent ABC and MSTI and the exceptional training program at Brazosport College.

Mr. Patterson prepared for both hands-on and written exams for the competition with coaching from some of our past medal winners.  The winning tradition continues with Joseph being the 26th candidate from this program to bring home a medal.

Congratulations to Joseph, his instructors at Brazosport College, his mentors, training coordinators and co-workers at McGill Maintenance, and his family and friends.  Each of you are part of this big accomplishment!
