The Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors was formed June, 1975. It became a chapter on January 1, 1976 with 100 charter members.
Texas Gulf Coast Chapter was formed as a satellite of the Greater Houston Chapter. The chapter’s primary function was to provide education and training for local contractors and to defend and promote the open shop construction industry.

The first Texas Gulf Coast chapter office was located in the Brazosport Professional Center in Freeport. Other offices have been located in Clute and Lake Jackson.
In 1997, Dow Chemical Company donated, to the chapter, its training complex facility in Freeport. Located on 18 acres of land with 11 buildings allows the chapter to offer more classes at more frequent times.
